Really, that’s the Democratic Party is, isn’t it?
At the national level — Republicans give us the Great Depression, Democratic fix it.
There’s an invasive threat from the Axis in WWII — Democrats fix it.
There’s a criminal in the White House, committing Watergate and more — Democrats fix it.
Reagan/Bush run up 12 years of massive debt, a Democrat fixes it, eliminating the deficit.
Republicans get us into a terrible war in Iraq, a Democrat fixes it.
Republican policies lead to the Great Recession, a Democrat fixes it.
Building infrastructure — bridges, dams, power systems, advancing technology — the Democratic Party has done these things.
When the cold war threatened the human race, JFK started the effort toward reducing the danger.
When tobacco was found to kill hundreds of thousands of American annually, Democrats fought to reduce smoking; Republicans took money from tobacco companies and said the science isn’t proven.
Now that our use of fossil fuels threatens the very atmosphere, it’s Democrats fighting to heal it.
That’s the Democratic Party healing the nation, over and over.
But the party also heals the American people — literally.
From FDR and Truman advocating universal healthcare, to the incremental progress — JFK and LBJ’s Medicaire and Medicaid, to Hillary’s effort, to the Affordable Act, to Bernie’s call for Medicaire for all.
Healing the American people.
That’s really what our party is.
