The most important election of the next decade, likely

No, not Hillary and trump.

In 2010 a covert Republican effort to take state governments worked very well, with surprisingly few resources since state elections were not normally big money races.
That gave them the state legislatures to draw the Congressional districts for the next decade — it's done once ever ten years after the census, unless Texas wants to re-do it.
And they were very respectful of democracy in not going to excesses in Gerrymandering. And of course we know that’s sarcasm.

The 2020 state races are likely the most important election of the next decade for the same reason, to take back states and allow Democrats to have a chance in the House for the next ten years.

It could even be bigger — some Republicans want to change the rules (they can) to make presidential electors determined by the same districts, to use their Gerrymandering for the presidency.

If that one change had been in place in 2012, Mitt Romney would now be president. That’s how warped their abuse of Gerrymandering has been.

If you didn't know, Republicans have had large majorities controlling the House when they LOST the popular vote.

But we hear almost nothing about the need for progressives to organize for the 2020 state elections.

For what it’s worth, the Democratic Party does have a project on this:
