Book idea: "Profiles in Cowardice"

John Kennedy wrote “Profiles in Courage” to promote the idea and public support for politicians trying to ‘do the right thing’ when it threatened their power.

To further that purpose, I think the book that would be helpful today would be one that criticizes what we’re actually seeing now, the opposite by (mostly) Republicans.

We could use a book that highlights stories of leaders who fail to come close to that standard Kennedy set.

For example, Orrin Hatch, suggesting to Obama to nominate Merrick Garland — then supporting the blocking of Garland when Obama did so.

Or, Mitch McConnell introducing a bill — then opposing it when President Obama agreed to it.

I think some specific stories about when officials do the wrong thing, for the wrong reasons, in acts of cowardice, could be very useful for raising public awareness and shaming the wrongdoers.

I can see a case for it being all Republicans as the worst offenders; or to keep the spirit of Kennedy’s book, offering some examples of Democrats — and there are some — as well.

I offer the idea to any author who agrees and wants to do this, and I’ll offer input.

Just put a credit.:)
