“We’re on your side, the other party is not.”
That happens to be a correct statement for Democrats — but whether the voters believe it or not is likely to determine the outcome of the next election.
Republicans understand that, and have all kinds of ways to lie that they’re the ones on the voters’ side, and a ‘noise machine’ to spread their message.
Is there one trump voter in America who doesn’t have the phrase “crooked Hillary” on the tip of their tongue, with millions of them voting because of that opinion?
Democrats need to recognize that one sentence is what’s important, and use every Republican action and statement to leave voters with no doubt DEMOCRATS are on their side, not Republicans.
I could end the diary there, but will emphasize a point about how Republicans are able to sell perverse statements.
When Reagan wanted to run up the national debt to buy economic recovery and tax cuts for the rich, he talked constantly about how bad debt is and had voters saying he’s on the right side of the issue.
When George W. Bush wanted to ‘be a war president’ because he knew it gave the president more power for their other policies, he ran saying he was for a ‘more humble foreign policy’ than Clinton.
When Paul Ryan wants to sell what I call “kill the poor” policies, he has learned to describe them as “help the poor” policies and to say it’s really Democrats who hurt the poor. And so on.
It’s the same issue for the one that voters use — who’s on their side?
